Dry scalp occurs when the scalp does not have enough oil for the skin to feel lubricated. Like other forms of dry skin, this can cause itching, flaking, and irritation. It can also cause the hair to look dry since oil from the scalp helps to condition the hair. Dandruff can also occur when the scalp is dry which also cause the scalp to itch.
When the skin cells on the scalp shed and replace themselves too quickly, this can cause a causes a boost of dead skin cells, which eventually flake off into the hair, resulting in visible dandruff and an itchy scalp.
How do you treat this?
Apple Cider Vinegar has anti-inflammatory, antifungal and anti-bacterial properties that can help reduce itching of the scalp. After a hair washes, take a cap full and dilute in warm water, apply on scalp and massage well. Leave on for about 3mins and rinse off with lukewarm water. Heating up olive oil can also help. The following oils are good to alleviate dandruff, itchy and dry scalp. Tea tree oil, Lemongrass oil, Peppermint Oil or any other oil that contains menthol. There are also a variety of medicated shampoos that can be purchased from neighbourhood pharmacies and drug stores. I hope this helps.
