What you should know about Turmeric!

Asides its orange colour and peppery taste, turmeric is an aromatic spice from Indian and the Asian part of the world that has been used for thousands of years in Ayurvedic medicine for its health benefits. Turmeric, a member of the ginger family, is a root most commonly known in it & ground spice form. Until now, you probably only cracked it out in order to flavour curry.  Turmeric originates from the root of the Curcuma Longa plant-(Curcumin) and has been widely used in the east as a medicinal spice due to its variety of health benefits for the body and brain.

The many benefits of Turmeric Turmeric help in the healing of wounds and other skin infections Turmeric is used as a natural disinfectant because of its antibacterial and antiseptic properties. Spread a little quantity of turmeric powder on the affected area. You can mix with neem oil to treat Acne, Psoriasis and other skin conditions Turmeric masks help to treat pimples, acne and black spots. It also lightens the complexion so be careful of the quantity used for a mask Turmeric is one of my go-to herbs and I use it in most of my skin care products.

Turmeric reduces inflammation

The anti-inflammatory properties in turmeric support reliefs of joint pain. Arthritis, aches and joint pain are amongst the most obvious signs of inflammation. And so anything that helps to balance inflammation may relieve symptoms – or even help prevent the problem from occurring in the first place." Turmeric generally reduces muscle pain and stiffness.

Turmeric reduces blood sugar

Turmeric has been shown to lower blood sugar and can reverse insulin resistance. It can improve the effects of diabetic medications and can help in controlling the disease because of its active ingredient Curcumin.

Turmeric helps in reduction of weight

Turmeric helps increase the flow of bile, which is important in the breakdown of dietary fat. By taking 1 tsp. of Turmeric at every meal, it has shown to benefit those who want to lose weight. Adding turmeric to your food whilst cooking helps in your diet. Most often, I add turmeric powder to my meat, fish and chicken. I marinate, wrap in foil and refrigerate overnight before cooking.
